The Kaduna State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has demanded a full-scale military probe into what it describes as the targeted killing and persecution of Fulani herders in Southern Kaduna.
In a statement titled “A Betrayal of Justice” and signed by its chairman, Alhaji Abdulhamid Musa Albarka, MACBAN accused certain military officers and local government officials of complicity in the September 28, 2025, attack at Tanda Village, Jema’a Local Government Area. According to the group, four herders — Suleiman Idris, Yusuf Abdullahi, Hamidu Dauda, and Ibrahim Hassan — were ambushed by armed militias while attempting to use a cattle route allegedly blocked by local groups.
The association stated that Suleiman Idris was killed, while the others sustained serious injuries. Their cattle, it added, were scattered and lost in the chaos. Albarka described the incident as a premeditated attack rather than a spontaneous clash, accusing local leaders of turning a blind eye to the violence.
MACBAN also alleged that the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, interfered with police investigations and tried to shield the perpetrators from justice. The group faulted the chairman’s failure to visit or console the victims’ families, saying his attitude undermines Governor Uba Sani’s peace efforts.
Furthermore, the association accused some officers under Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) of negligence, claiming that military commanders ignored intelligence warnings before the attack. MACBAN urged the Chief of Defence Staff and the Defence Headquarters to investigate the matter, warning that continued silence could erode public trust in national institutions.
The association called on President Bola Tinubu to set up a judicial panel of inquiry into the killings and to restructure the national security framework in the region. It also demanded the suspension of the Jema’a council chairman pending an investigation, the deployment of more security personnel, and compensation for victims’ families.
While reaffirming its commitment to peace, MACBAN warned that peace cannot exist without justice, stressing that unless accountability is enforced, Southern Kaduna’s fragile stability may deteriorate further.
