The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed disappointment over President Bola Tinubu’s decision to retain the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, despite allegations of certificate forgery.
Reports claim that the documents submitted by Nnaji during his ministerial screening were fake, with investigations suggesting that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, never issued the certificate he presented. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was also said to have disowned the NYSC certificate attached to his credentials.
In a statement issued by Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, the party said it was not surprised by the silence from the Tinubu administration, which it described as a “government comfortable with corruption.”
“At this point, the question every Nigerian is asking is simple: if the Minister is not honourable enough to resign, why is the Tinubu administration still keeping him in office?” the party asked.
ADC added that by refusing to act, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Tinubu government were “admitting their complicity” in fraudulent practices and undermining their anti-corruption stance.
The opposition party demanded the immediate suspension of Uche Nnaji pending an independent investigation. It further stated that if found guilty, the Minister should be dismissed and prosecuted for forgery and perjury.
