Governor Sanwo-Olu Warns Against Repeat of #EndSARS Ahead of Nationwide Protest

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has cautioned that the state will not allow a repeat of the 2020 #EndSARS protest. He addressed Lagos residents on July 31, ahead of the planned nationwide protest on August 1 over hunger and hardship.

The governor reminded everyone that the #EndSARS protest, which started peacefully, ended in widespread destruction and loss. He emphasized that Lagos is still recovering from the damages, including the destruction of courts, police stations, local government offices, fire stations, the forensic center, and more. Key landmarks like the City Hall, Nigeria Ports Authority headquarters, and traditional rulers’ palaces were also damaged, along with malls, shops, offices, and hundreds of brand-new BRT buses.

Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Nigeria’s current challenges but assured that the Tinubu-led government is working on solutions to ease the people’s suffering. He questioned the effectiveness of a 10-day protest in solving economic issues, suggesting that protests might reverse the progress already made.
