Former presidential aide, Garba Shehu, has reacted to recent comments made by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, who claimed that Boko Haram once chose Muhammadu Buhari as a negotiator during peace talks. In a swift response, Shehu dismissed Jonathan’s statement as false and misleading, insisting that Buhari never played any role in negotiating on behalf of the insurgent group.
According to Shehu, the claim was a desperate attempt to rewrite history and shift blame for the security failures experienced during Jonathan’s administration. He emphasized that Buhari had, at the time, publicly denied any association with Boko Haram and had instead urged the government to strengthen the fight against terrorism.
Shehu also noted that Buhari’s stance on national security has always been clear and consistent — to defeat terrorism and restore peace in Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to focus on facts and not be misled by political narratives intended to distort the truth.
