The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) have refuted claims that they released withheld local government funds in Osun State to All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors. This comes after the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) alleged that the allocations were being diverted into private accounts linked to APC members.
In their separate statements, both institutions clarified that no such disbursement had been made to any individuals or political party members. They emphasized that all funds meant for local government areas are duly remitted in line with official financial processes and cannot be transferred outside legal frameworks. According to them, the reports making the rounds are false and misleading.
The controversy has fueled political debates in Osun State, with calls for more transparency in the handling of local government allocations. Stakeholders have urged the state government to clear the air, stressing that any misuse of funds would affect grassroots development. For now, the CBN and OAGF maintain that no such illegal transaction has occurred.
