The Federal Government has announced that submission of academic theses will now be a compulsory requirement for all participants of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). According to the NYSC management, the new directive aims to promote research, innovation, and accountability among graduates before they are mobilized for the mandatory service year.
Officials explained that the initiative is designed to encourage students to complete their final-year research projects and submit proof before proceeding to camp. The policy, they said, will also help build a database of research work that can be used for national development, ensuring that Nigeria benefits directly from the knowledge generated by its graduates.
While some stakeholders have welcomed the move as a step toward improving academic discipline and national growth, others fear it could create additional stress for students already battling delays in project supervision. The NYSC, however, assured that the process will be transparent, fair, and properly monitored to avoid unnecessary complications for prospective corps members.
