Lagos Demolishes Several Illegal and defective structures at Trade Fair

The Lagos State Government has carried out a demolition exercise at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, removing illegal and structurally defective buildings. Officials explained that the operation was part of efforts to ensure public safety and restore order in the busy commercial hub. They noted that many of the affected structures posed serious risks to traders and visitors, as they were built without approval or did not meet safety standards.

According to the government, the decision followed several warnings to traders and property owners who failed to comply with building regulations. Authorities stressed that the demolition was necessary to protect lives, prevent potential building collapses, and promote a safer environment for business activities. They added that the move aligns with Lagos’ broader urban renewal drive aimed at improving infrastructure and reducing hazards across the state.

The demolition sparked mixed reactions among traders and stakeholders, with some supporting the government’s action while others expressed concern about the impact on their livelihoods. However, officials assured that genuine businesses operating within the approved areas of the Trade Fair Complex would not be affected. The state reiterated its commitment to balancing safety with economic growth.
