The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed disappointment over the slow progress at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal building located in Dakibiyu, Jabi District.
Wike made this known on Monday after he visited the construction site of the Appeal Court complex as well as the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District.
The minister said he was not confident that the contractor would meet the September 2025 completion date, which was chosen to align with the legal year celebration of the Court of Appeal.
Speaking to newsmen after the visit, Wike said, “I am worried because I don’t believe the contractor will finish on time.”
He explained that he had called for an urgent meeting with the contractor to discuss how the project could be fast-tracked. According to him, the project is very important to President Bola Tinubu.
Wike added that even though the September 2025 deadline may not be met, the building must still be completed before the end of this year, since the President considers it a top priority.
Meanwhile, he praised the level of progress at the Judges’ Quarters project in Katampe, where 40 five-bedroom duplexes are under construction for judges of the Federal High Court, the FCT High Court, and the Court of Appeal.
According to him, the contractors handling the Judges’ Quarters are working at a good pace, and the project, which is scheduled for handover in January 2026, may even be delivered before the deadline with full furnishing.
Wike further explained that President Tinubu’s plan to provide proper housing for judges was part of efforts to improve the independence of the judiciary.
He said that with secure and comfortable housing, judges will be able to live apart, concentrate fully on their duties, and perform their roles without unnecessary distractions.
