The Kano office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has welcomed 148 Nigerians who were stuck in Sudan. This is part of the government’s continuous effort to bring citizens safely back home from troubled countries.
In a statement on Saturday, NEMA explained that the returnees arrived on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. through Malam Aminu Kano International Airport. They came in on a chartered Tarco Aviation flight.
The group consisted of 25 men, 27 women, 39 boys, and 57 girls.
After arrival, the returnees were taken to Chila Hotel where they went through profiling and documentation carried out by officials and relevant agencies.
NEMA further explained that the returnees were not included in any reintegration programme but were provided transport fare through ATM cards after completing their registration.
The agency added that the evacuation process was well-organized and successfully carried out.
This evacuation comes as the war in Sudan continues to force millions out of their homes and damage the country’s infrastructure. The Federal Government, working with NEMA and other international partners, said it will keep monitoring the situation while providing help to Nigerians affected by the crisis.
