The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the rescue of a kidnap victim after a 30-minute gun duel with armed men in the Guzape area of Abuja. The operation, which took place on September 15, 2025, was described by Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale as “a life-threatening battle” that ended with the death of one bandit.
According to the police, two vigilante members were injured during the attack, and sadly, one later died at the National Hospital, Abuja. The kidnappers had also attempted to abduct two young women but were stopped by a swift response from the police, supported by senior officers, including the deputy commissioner of operations and the Rapid Response Squad commander.
The same gang struck again on September 17 in Karu, where they kidnapped a staff member of the FCT Administration, Nafiu Idris. Working with the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade, DSS operatives, local hunters, and vigilantes, police traced the suspects to Zinda Forest near Kurudu on the Nasarawa border. A fierce battle followed, and three of the criminals were killed.
Police investigations revealed the gang leader was behind multiple kidnappings across Guzape, Karu, Kpobi, Kurudu, Army Estate, and nearby areas in Nasarawa. Their attempt to abduct another resident at Federal Housing Estate, Karu, on September 18 was also foiled. Items recovered from their hideout included AK-49 rifles, magazines, charms, mobile phones, ATM cards, animal horns, lighters, and ₦10,000 cash.
In a related development, Adewale disclosed that 11 suspected drug dealers were arrested during anti-narcotics raids across Abuja. Security forces seized 68 bags of cannabis and other illicit substances. He assured residents that the combined efforts of police and security agencies would continue to weaken criminal networks, reduce drug-fueled crimes, and ensure safer communities.
