The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the people following the end of the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared the emergency on March 18, 2025, due to the intense political crisis that engulfed the state.
In his broadcast, Governor Fubara admitted that the period was one of the toughest in the state’s history. He explained that he chose to cooperate fully with President Tinubu and the National Assembly, even though he had the option of challenging the legality of the emergency. According to him, no sacrifice was too great in the quest for peace, stability, and progress in Rivers State.
The governor praised President Tinubu for playing a fatherly role in restoring calm and brokering peace among the political actors. He revealed that he, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the state lawmakers had agreed to put their differences aside, reconcile, and work together for the greater good of Rivers people. He assured citizens that lasting peace and stability had returned to the state, though important lessons had been learned during the difficult period.
Fubara also expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers for their patience and resilience throughout the emergency rule. He promised to focus on governance again, with priority on completing ongoing projects in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other vital sectors. He further pledged to work harmoniously with the State House of Assembly and to lead with humility, fairness, and inclusiveness.
