PDP crisis: Damagum now against me after helping him – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, of betrayal. Wike claimed that despite helping Damagum secure his current position, he has now become the PDP chairman’s biggest enemy.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike said he did everything possible to keep Damagum in office, even supporting him legally. According to him, Damagum would not hesitate to harm him if given the chance. “I did everything, I had his lawyers, and that’s what sustained Damagum to be there. But who is Damagum’s enemy now? It is me,” Wike lamented.

The rift comes at a time when the PDP is facing mounting internal pressure. Recently, former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, urged the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) to expel Wike and other high-profile members like Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu. Lamido accused them of undermining the PDP to benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This latest clash between Wike and Damagum adds more fuel to the crisis threatening to further divide the PDP as it struggles to maintain unity ahead of key political battles.
