Nigerian-British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua could soon step into the ring on African soil for the very first time. According to his promoter, Ezekiel Adamu, talks are already in motion to make the long-awaited fight in Nigeria a reality. Joshua, who has often spoken of his dream to fight in his ancestral homeland, may finally get that chance in early 2026.
Adamu revealed that discussions with Joshuaâs camp have been encouraging, with the boxer himself fully on board. âJoshua has always said before ending his career, he wants to fight in Nigeria, and now the opportunity is very close,â Adamu told The Ring. He noted that Joshuaâs team sees the idea as a âmatch made in heaven.â
The proposed fight is expected to take place at the Abuja National Stadium, which holds up to 50,000 spectators. Plans are being considered for an all-African showdown, with possible opponents including Franceâs Tony Yoka, Congoâs Martin Bakole, or even American heavyweight Deontay Wilder, who also has Nigerian heritage.
If the fight is confirmed, it would not only be a dream come true for Joshua but also a historic event for Nigeria. The country has produced many boxing talents over the years, and hosting a global star like Joshua could put Nigerian sports back in the global spotlight while inspiring a new generation of fighters.
