2027: Those Fronting Jonathan Bent On Causing National Crisis, Says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that those urging former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest in the 2027 presidential election are trying to push Nigeria into crisis.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday night in Abuja, Wike said it was ironic that the same people who rejected Jonathan in 2015 are now calling for his comeback, even though he is already respected worldwide as a statesman.

“Anyone saying Jonathan should come back just because he will serve one term is only looking for problems. These are the same people who turned their backs on him in 2015. Jonathan has built a global reputation, but they want to drag him into unnecessary political fights,” Wike stated.

The minister further warned against destabilising the political system by presenting Jonathan or any southern candidate under the excuse of a “one-term presidency.” He described such a plan as dishonest.

On President Bola Tinubu’s government, Wike admitted that Nigerians are facing tough times but insisted the president has taken strong and necessary steps to fix the economy.

“Yes, people are suffering, I agree. But nobody can say this government is not working to make things better. I see the projects in Abuja every day, and they show progress is being made,” he explained.

Wike also fired back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who recently warned of a possible revolution because of hunger and poverty. Wike accused Atiku of being insincere.

“Atiku was vice president for eight years. Why didn’t he prepare the country to avoid hunger then? Now he keeps shouting about hunger and revolution. For me, I don’t even waste my time reading what he says, because it lacks truth,” Wike said.

The FCT minister stressed that Nigerians should be patient with Tinubu’s administration and cautioned opposition leaders not to use the economic hardship for political advantage.
