Kenya Airways pays NCAA fine for Consumer breaches

Kenya Airways has settled the fine placed on it by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for violating the rights of Nigerian passenger, Gloria Omisore, and others. The case dates back to February 2025.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed that the airline made the payment on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. He explained that the settlement came after several discussions between NCAA, Kenya Airways, and the Kenyan High Commission in Nigeria.

Achimugu noted that the penalty was not intended as punishment but as a reminder for airlines to respect passenger rights and follow proper safety standards.

Even though the airline has now paid, NCAA stated that the time allowed to fix the main issues has already passed. They stressed that fines alone do not fully close such cases.

The issue started in February 2025 after a viral video circulated online. The video, shared by Tunde Moshood, aide to the Aviation Minister, showed a dispute at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. In the clip, Kenya Airways staff stopped Ms. Omisore from boarding her connecting flight to Lagos due to a visa issue. The airline later accused her of being unruly.

After reviewing the case, NCAA faulted Kenya Airways’ handling of the situation and imposed sanctions, which the airline has now cleared.
