Hilda Baci’s mother, Lynda Ndukwe, recently shared her emotional story during Pastor Jerry Eze’s NSPPD online service after her daughter set a new Guinness World Record.
She admitted that she was very nervous when she first saw the giant pot her daughter planned to use for cooking.
Speaking during the virtual service on Tuesday, Lynda, who runs Calabar Pot restaurant in Gudu, Abuja, recalled how Hilda told her she wanted to make a six-meter-wide pot of rice using 250 bags of basmati.
She said her daughter’s Guinness World Record for the largest Nigerian-style jollof rice was only possible through prayer, fasting, and God’s mercy. Lynda said, “What God cannot do does not exist.”
“My daughter said, ‘Mommy, I want to cook the biggest jollof rice.’ When she mentioned 250 bags, I was shaking,” she confessed.
“When she sent me the video of that pot, I thought, what kind of rice is this? That pot was as big as my office. I was scared,” she added.
To prepare, they started fasting and praying, asking God to guide the cooking attempt.
“She told me, Mommy, we have to fast the entire week. And we did. I joined NSPPD every morning, prayed through the nights, and showed God the pictures of the event,” she said.
Lynda admitted she feared the huge pot might collapse under the heavy ingredients.
“Even the lid was too heavy to carry. They had to use cranes. I prayed, Father, I hand over this pot to you. It’s made by humans, but you are God. May it not leak. If it did, it could cause a fire. But God made it safe,” she said.
The pot eventually held 200 bags of rice, 20 goats, 30 gallons of oil, plus a large amount of tomato paste and seasoning.
“That pot held everything. When it was moved to the venue, I touched it and told God, what I feared will not happen. And it ended in praise,” she said.
Close to finishing, Hilda asked everyone to pray together.
“About 40 minutes to finish, she said, ‘Mommy, we need to pray in the Holy Ghost.’ She told the team, ‘This is the first time you’ll eat rice cooked by the Holy Ghost.’ I smiled because of her strong faith,” Lynda added.
Guinness officials later weighed the rice with a crane and officially confirmed the record without any issues.
Filled with gratitude, Lynda said, “Guinness has called us. My daughter has broken the record twice. Who is Hilda? Who is her family? Only God can bring such a crowd.”
She said seeing the large crowd at the event left her amazed.
“When I saw everyone, I said, what God cannot do does not exist. Father, no accidents, no deaths, no bad reports. And everything ended in praise,” she concluded.
