Naira Marley warns Nigerian youths against sports betting

Popular Nigerian singer and rapper, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, has spoken out against the rising habit of sports betting among young people.

The artist, famous for his hit song Tesumole, explained that gambling should not be seen as a job or source of income.

He urged Nigerian youths to stop spending their money on betting, saying it is only draining their pockets without giving them real value.

Posting on his X handle, Naira Marley wrote: “Football bet no be work bro. Please stop before they finish you.”

His advice comes at a time when many Nigerians are worried about the negative effects of sports betting on the youth population.

According to a report by Business Insider Africa, Nigeria was ranked as the number one sports betting country in Africa in early 2025.

The report revealed that there are about 168.7 million active bettors in Nigeria, with around 70 percent of the country’s population under 30 years old involved in betting.
