The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that the country’s average power supply to the national grid fell to 5,514 megawatts in August 2025. This was a drop compared to the 5,577 megawatts recorded in July.
According to NERC’s latest Fast Sheet, released on Monday, the figure shows a decline in available power supply across the nation.
This level of generation is 40 percent below Nigeria’s total installed electricity generation capacity, which currently stands at 13,625 megawatts.
NERC further explained that the average amount of electricity supplied each hour in August was 4,106 megawatt-hours. This means only 74 percent of the available generation capacity was put to use.
The figures also showed that the country is still facing the problem of stranded and underutilised electricity, as August’s 4,106 MWh/h was lower compared to the 4,340 MWh/h delivered in July 2025.
It is worth noting that the national power grid collapsed last week Wednesday but was later restored.
