Air Peace saga: ‘I don’t drink, I don’t smoke’ – Co-pilot rejects NSIB findings

Air Peace co-pilot, David Bernard, has challenged a report by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), which claimed that alcohol and drugs were found in his body.

This comes after the runway overrun incident that happened at Port Harcourt Airport, Rivers State, on July 13, 2025.

Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, Bernard strongly denied the claim, saying he does not drink alcohol or smoke.

He explained that the flight had good weather and clear visibility, and everything seemed fine until the captain switched off the autopilot at 500 feet to manually control the plane.

According to Bernard, the captain’s approach became unstable after disconnecting the autopilot, and he had to caution him, saying, “Commander, you are high for this approach.”

Bernard said he grew worried because the landing was not stable and could become risky.

Meanwhile, the NSIB report accused the Air Peace crew of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Air Peace, however, has disagreed with the findings, supporting its crew against the allegations.
