Five bodies found along Lagos riverbank as suspected cultists k!ll man and chop off his hands, legs

Five dead bodies have been discovered along the riverbank in Oreta, a community in Igbogbo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The bodies were recovered on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, just a day after suspected cultists killed a man identified as Akeem, also known as Babu, in Bayeku, another part of Ikorodu.

Reports suggest the two incidents may be connected to the rising wave of cult-related violence that has been troubling Lagos in recent weeks.

The surge in clashes has forced the Lagos police command to redeploy some divisional heads in an attempt to control the situation.

Witnesses from Bayeku said the victim was not only killed but also had his hands and legs chopped off in a brutal attack.

Some community members, however, believe the killing may not be tied to cultism, insisting that Akeem was not known as a cultist. They suspect the attack could be related to land disputes instead.

Residents also confirmed that police operatives visited the Oreta scene after the five bodies were found.

There were speculations that the river might have brought the corpses to the riverbank, but many locals dismissed that claim, saying the circumstances remain unclear.
