Brazilian striker Joao Pedro has confessed that he was worried Cole Palmer might think he came to replace him as Chelsea’s top star when he joined the London club.
He shared this during a chat about his first meeting with Palmer after moving from Brighton to Chelsea this summer.
Pedro completed his move to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the 2025 transfer window and has been impressive ever since.
The forward played a key role in Chelsea’s recent success, helping the team secure the FIFA Club World Cup title.
Speaking with Standard Sport, Pedro explained that he was initially concerned about how Palmer would react to his arrival and felt the need to talk to him directly.
This was because Palmer is widely seen as the most important player in Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea squad.
Pedro revealed that he decided to approach Palmer, making it clear that he came to support him, not take his place.
“Cole is a huge talent. When I arrived, I was nervous about his reaction because I was the main man at Brighton. But Chelsea is a different story.
I told him, ‘I’m here to help you.’ He understands I can support him, and I know he can do the same for me,” Pedro explained.
According to Pedro, he and Palmer now share a strong connection on the pitch, and he believes the partnership can bring more trophies to Chelsea.
So far this season, Chelsea have won two matches and drawn one in the Premier League, putting them in second place behind Liverpool.
