Rapper Cardi B has been found not guilty in a $24 million lawsuit that accused her of scratching a woman’s face during a 2018 confrontation in Beverly Hills.
The trial, which took place in Los Angeles last week, grabbed headlines not just because of the high compensation sought but also due to the dramatic courtroom moments.
Cardi B, famous for songs like WAP and Bodak Yellow, made headlines with her colorful wigs and fiery exchanges with the lawyers.
The woman who filed the case, Emani Ellis, claimed that Cardi B — who was pregnant at the time — attacked her outside a doctor’s office, using racial insults, spitting, and scratching her face.
Cardi B denied these allegations, saying that Ellis approached her aggressively while trying to film her on a phone.
Cardi B’s attorneys explained that she was four months pregnant and wanted to protect her privacy.
They argued that Ellis provoked the situation, which escalated into a shouting match before medical staff stepped in to separate them.
The jury ultimately rejected Ellis’s claims and denied her any financial compensation.
After the verdict, Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, reaffirmed her innocence:
“I swear to God, I will say it on my death bed, I did not touch that woman.”
She also warned anyone considering lawsuits against her in the future: “The next person that tries a frivolous lawsuit against me, I will counter-sue and make you pay. Don’t think you can sue me and expect me to settle — it won’t happen.”
