Police rescue man attempting to commit su!cide in Anambra

Police operatives in Anambra State have rescued a 28-year-old man who attempted to take his own life by climbing a high-tension electricity pole in Awada.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening behind the Grace of God Mission, off NEPA Road, Awada.

According to reports, officers attached to the Awada Division quickly rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call. They cordoned off the area to avoid accidents and controlled the large crowd that had gathered.

After several minutes of calm persuasion by the police and concerned residents, the man finally agreed to climb down safely.

The man was taken into protective custody and later identified himself as Mr. Okwudili David Onyiba, aged 28.

Confirming the case, the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered medical and mental health evaluations for the victim.

He added that the Command would provide every necessary support to ensure the young man’s well-being.
