The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, visited Katsina State on Sunday after the killings in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
He promised that the military will deal decisively with bandits disturbing communities in the state.
Oluyede, who was on an operational visit, met with the acting governor, Faruk Lawal, at the Government House. He assured that the Nigerian Army is fully committed to ending banditry and other security challenges in Katsina and across the North-West.
Reacting to the attack on Mantau community in Malumfashi, the army chief described it as a very sad and unfortunate incident. He explained that troops will intensify efforts to track down and eliminate the leaders of the bandits behind such violence.
According to him, the real enemies of Katsina are within the state, and the army will identify them and wipe them out.
Oluyede also appealed for stronger cooperation through intelligence sharing among residents, the state government, and security agencies, noting that this would speed up the battle against banditry.
Responding, Acting Governor Faruk Lawal asked the army to send more soldiers and equipment to high-risk areas. He also called on residents to support the security agencies with useful information to help crush bandits once and for all.
