The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to comments by Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, saying his statements represent only his personal view and not the position of the coalition.
Baba-Ahmed, in a Channels TV interview, accused the ADC-led coalition of misleading Nigerians and said he plans to contest the 2027 elections alongside Peter Obi.
ADC’s deputy national publicity secretary, Jackie Wayas, said Baba-Ahmed is respected but emphasized that the coalition is a collective effort involving several political leaders and parties.
Wayas explained that the coalition was formed after consulting key figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi.
She also stressed that Obi has already confirmed his commitment to the coalition and that the ADC will serve as the platform for the 2027 elections.
Obi had declared on July 3, 2025, that the coalition aims to ensure Nigeria gets competent and compassionate leadership that prioritizes citizens.
Wayas added that the coalition focuses on unity, national interest, and providing solutions to Nigeria’s challenges. She urged Nigerians to support the ADC to create a clear and united opposition for the country.
The ADC maintains that the coalition is a shared project with Peter Obi fully committed, as it prepares to lead the opposition in the 2027 elections.
