Singer Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for his involvement in a $1 million luxury goods fraud scheme.
The 35-year-old artist, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was convicted in March alongside his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner.
Both were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud. Turner was sentenced last month to five years in prison.
Prosecutors revealed that Kingston used his celebrity status to obtain expensive items, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, luxury watches, and a massive 19-foot LED television.
He allegedly presented fake wire transfer receipts and convinced sellers that they would get social media promotion instead of real payments.
U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz, who presided over the case in South Florida, ordered Kingston to be taken into custody immediately after sentencing. The judge dismissed his lawyer’s request for delayed surrender, which was made on health grounds.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Anton described Kingston as a “thief and a conman,” accusing him of exploiting his fame for years to deceive victims.
Kingston’s lawyer, Zeljka Bozanic, argued that while the singer lacked financial discipline, he had started repaying the people he defrauded.
The singer and his mother were arrested in May 2024 after a SWAT team raided his rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale.
Kingston, born in Florida and raised in Jamaica, rose to stardom at the age of 17 with his global hit “Beautiful Girls” in 2007.
