Heavy Security As Low Turnout Mars Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye-Election (Photos)

The bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency on Saturday recorded very low voter participation, with only a few people turning out to cast their votes. The election was conducted across twelve wards in the constituency.

Reports show that the exercise was scheduled to begin by 8:30 in the morning, but in many polling units, voting did not start at the appointed time.

This was despite the fact that electoral officers and materials arrived before schedule. By the time voting was supposed to start, most polling units were still empty as no voters had shown up.

At Ward 6, Unit 6, there were no voters at all as of 8:26 am when reporters visited. A similar situation was seen at Ward 6, Unit 21, where the process had not begun as of 8:30 am because no one was available to vote.

At Ward 10, Unit 28 in Old Bodija, the polling unit was also empty, and by 9:02 am, no voter had arrived.

In some other units, the process eventually began later. At Ward 10, Unit 27, voting started around 9:07 am, while at Ward 10, Unit 11, it commenced by 9:10 am.

Although turnout was low, there was a heavy presence of security personnel across the constituency. Security was also tightened in surrounding areas close to the election zone.

Policemen, Civil Defence officials, and soldiers were sighted in places such as Apete, Ijokodo, and Adamasingba.
