Man who secretly lived with ex-girlfriend’s de@d body for years is jailed

A man who kept his ex-girlfriend’s body hidden in his home for years has been sent to prison.

Jamie Stevens, 51, covered the remains of Anouska Sites with a blanket in his Torquay apartment after she died in 2022 and continued living there while her body decayed.

Anouska was reported missing on April 10, 2025. Police later confirmed the last sighting of her was on May 21, 2022.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police, an investigation led them to speak with Stevens, who initially claimed he had not seen Anouska since February or March 2022.

Officers visited Stevens’ home on Upton Road several times but got no answer.

On May 27, 2025, police managed to get inside his apartment and made the shocking discovery of a woman’s body, later identified as Anouska.

Stevens was arrested and told police that Anouska had stayed with him for a night in January 2023. He claimed he left in the morning and returned to find her dead.

Instead of contacting emergency services, Stevens admitted he placed a blanket over her and left her where she was.

He confessed to police that he knew it was wrong and could not explain why he didn’t report her death. He also admitted lying about when he last saw her.

At Exeter Crown Court, Stevens was given 14 months in prison for preventing a lawful and decent burial between May 21, 2022, and May 28, 2025.

He also received an eight-month sentence for trying to mislead the investigation between April 10 and May 28, 2025. Both sentences will run at the same time. Authorities have stated that Anouska’s death is not considered suspicious.

Senior investigating officer Jeanne Hellyer said she welcomed the sentence, calling it a “sad and tragic case.”

She added that Anouska was denied the dignity of a proper burial and expressed sympathy for her family and friends, who can now finally lay her to rest.
