2027: Peter Obi will keep his one-term promise – Middle Belt Forum

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) believes that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, will keep his promise to serve only one term if he wins the 2027 election.

Dr. Bitrus Pogu, the MBF National President, said Obi’s honesty and history of keeping promises make him trustworthy.

Pogu added, “We trust Peter Obi because he is a man of his word. When he says something, he follows through.” He also mentioned that this is a true belief from the Middle Belt people, not just a tactic to get support.

He clarified that his comments represent only the Middle Belt region, not the entire North, and noted that ideally, a president’s term should be decided by the constitution and voters.

At the same time, Obi’s supporters, called the Obidient Movement, are growing stronger in Oyo State. Recently, they held a conference called “Going Forward 2027: A New Nigeria is Possible” in Ibadan.

During the event, Prof. Francis Egbokhare, a language expert from the University of Ibadan, spoke about Nigeria’s lost opportunities.

He said, “Nigeria is a big country lying down, controlled by small powers.” He criticized the government for wasting money and focusing on propaganda instead of following the rule of law.

He advised the movement to rethink their political strategy and said, “Don’t play a game you don’t understand; either change the game or change the rules.” He warned that winning elections won’t help if the country’s mindset stays the same.

Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the national leader of the Obidient Movement, denied rumors that Obi might leave the Labour Party.

He said, “Peter Obi is still a member of the Labour Party. There are problems in the party, but INEC hasn’t made a final decision.” Yunusa confirmed Obi will run in 2027 and will stick to serving one term.

“If he wins, he will focus on making that one term count. Many problems in Nigeria can be fixed in a year if the focus is on people’s development, like he did in Anambra State.”
