A family holiday in Florida took a dangerous turn when a British man was arrested for allegedly trying to drown his daughter-in-law at a resort near Disney World.
Mark Gibbon, 62, from Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, had been staying with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport when a heated fight broke out. Authorities say the argument was linked to a disagreement over a family will.
Police reports allege that Gibbon attacked his 33-year-old daughter-in-law, Jasmine Wyld, while they were in the resort’s swimming pool. He is accused of repeatedly forcing her underwater. According to officials, Jasmine had to fight back to escape, but Gibbon continued pushing her below the surface.

The situation escalated when Jasmine’s nine-year-old daughter tried to help her. Police say Gibbon pushed the child away during the attack.
Eyewitnesses who saw the incident told local media they saw Gibbon holding Jasmine under the water and scratching her chest. Two women shouted at him, saying they had called the police. That’s when he reportedly stopped.
Gibbon, who works as a lighting technician, was arrested on the spot. During questioning, he admitted to pushing Jasmine underwater but denied that he wanted to kill her.
He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. Jasmine, who shares two children with Gibbon’s son Alex, is said to be recovering and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed strong disapproval, reminding visitors that everyone is expected to behave, whether they are residents or tourists. He added that because of Gibbon’s violent actions, he might be spending much more time in Florida than he planned.
The Solterra Resort, where the incident happened, is a luxury vacation destination located just minutes away from Walt Disney World.
