Kano Commissioner for Transportation resigns over bail controversy

The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned from office just hours after Governor Abba Yusuf received a report from the committee investigating his alleged involvement in the bail of a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman Danwawu.

The announcement was made in a statement by his media aide, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Wednesday in Kano.

Namadi explained that his resignation was driven by the public interest and the sensitive nature of the issue at hand.

He noted that the administration he served has always taken a strong stand against drug abuse and illegal drug sales. For that reason, he said, stepping down was necessary—even though the decision was a difficult one.

Although he continues to insist that he is innocent, Namadi said he made the decision to resign in the best interest of the public.

He also used the opportunity to thank Governor Yusuf for giving him the chance to serve and restated his commitment to good leadership.

Governor Yusuf accepted Namadi’s resignation and restated his government’s firm stance on justice, discipline, and the fight against drug-related offenses.

He further urged political appointees to handle sensitive matters with care and to always seek approval from their superiors before acting on public interest matters.
