Troops neutralize bandit, destroy camps in Benue

Troops from the 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working with local hunters, have carried out a major operation to improve safety in Benue State. The mission took place around the Tatough area of Makurdi Local Government.

The army spokesperson, Captain Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, said the troops also provided escort for a family going to bury a relative in Tse-Ayele village. During the patrol, they moved through several communities known for criminal activity, including Mdoor, Anter, Tse-Gegu, Tse-Akaajime, Tse-Agam, and Ndor.

As the soldiers approached Tse-Akaajime village, they were attacked by armed bandits. A quick but fierce gun battle followed. One of the bandits was killed, while the others ran off, leaving behind items such as two Tecno phones and three motorcycles, likely used for their operations.

After the fight, the troops located and destroyed all the bandit camps in the area. The camps were set on fire to stop the criminals from returning and using them again.

Soldiers stationed in Tatough are still carrying out regular patrols to keep the area secure and protect the local population.

Colonel KO Bukoye, who leads the operation, praised the troops for their courage and dedication. He urged them to remain alert and continue the effort to remove criminal groups from Benue State.
