The Niger State Police Command has arrested a vigilante and two other suspects for breaking into a house and stealing several valuable items.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, shared in a statement on Tuesday, July 29, that the police recovered one generator, 30 mobile phones, eight SIM cards, two solar batteries, 145 wraps of cannabis, and other illegal items during the operation.
The case began on July 17, 2025, when someone reported to Maje Police Division that unknown people had broken into a house along Kaduna Road. The thieves stole an unregistered Jincheng motorcycle, a generator, and other items from the house.
A major breakthrough came the next day when police traced the stolen generator to the room of a neighbour known as Baban-Rimi, who is now on the run. His guardian later opened the room, and the generator was found.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three people connected to the crime. They are 26-year-old Shuaibu Rabiu from Hayi-Kaduna, who works as a vigilante in the area; 24-year-old Shamsudeen Isah from Deidei, Abuja; and Ahmad Hussain, also from Deidei.
Rabiu was arrested based on strong evidence linking him to the gang. He later confirmed that Shamsudeen was a member of the group. Ahmad Hussain was arrested for receiving stolen items from the gang.
All three suspects admitted to their involvement in other housebreaking cases and mentioned two more people—Buhari Jaguar and Dan-Boko—who they said usually buy the stolen items from them.
The items recovered from the suspects include a generator, 30 handsets, SIM cards, solar batteries, 145 wraps of cannabis, codeine syrup, and face masks, among others.
The police say they are still investigating the case and are working to arrest other gang members who are on the run, as well as recover more stolen items.
