Kogi: Gov Ododo assures justice for slain photojournalist, Ayo

The Kogi State Government has promised to uncover all the facts about the tragic death of photojournalist Ayo Aiyepeku, assuring that justice will be served.

In a statement made in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said Governor Ahmed Ododo has told security agencies to thoroughly investigate the case and reveal what truly happened.

Governor Ododo said that even though justice can’t bring Ayo back, it can give his family some peace of mind and help prevent similar tragedies. He stressed that protecting people remains a major goal of his administration.

He further promised that the state government will do everything possible to make sure those responsible for Ayo’s murder are caught and punished by law.

The government also confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, including into the strange death of the main suspect who was linked to the crime.

The statement urged citizens to stay alert and assist the investigation by providing useful information to the police and other security agencies.

Reports say a correctional officer named Adebayo Pelumi is believed to have tricked and murdered Ayo, who was from Ekinrin Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

After days of searching and growing concern, Ayo’s body was finally discovered in a decomposed state on the outskirts of Lokoja.

The police had launched a manhunt after the suspect reportedly ran away with Ayo’s body, raising fears and questions from the public.

Later on, the suspect, Pelumi, was found dead in a hotel room in Lokoja. Early investigations suggest he may have taken his own life.

Authorities have since recovered Ayo’s body and taken it to the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja as they continue looking into the case.
