Hulk Hogan, the legendary professional wrestler, was in the middle of filming a Netflix documentary when he passed away at 71.
The documentary, which was a collaborative effort between Netflix and WWE, had not been officially announced before his death. It was intended to explore Hogan’s personal life and long-standing wrestling career. Despite the tragedy, insiders say the documentary will still move forward.
Production reportedly began in early 2024. Before his passing, Hogan had already completed more than 20 hours of personal interviews and contributed to an additional 30 hours of video content. He was deeply involved in the project, and according to a source, it would have shown fans a more personal side of him that hadn’t been seen before.
Though there’s no confirmed release date, the filmmakers are now adjusting parts of the documentary to include tributes and reflect his recent passing. Cameras are also expected to be present at WWE SmackDown this Friday to film special moments in his honor.
Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s and became one of the most recognized figures in sports entertainment. He played a major part in helping WWE grow into a global brand thanks to his personality and massive fan base.
He died in Clearwater, Florida, after going into cardiac arrest. Authorities have said there was no foul play involved, and a routine investigation is currently underway.
Hogan’s success didn’t just shape wrestling — it also paved the way for other stars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena to cross over into movies and television.
The Netflix documentary is being directed by Bryan Storkel and produced by Connor Schell’s studio, Words + Pictures, in partnership with WWE. The news of the project was first shared by Puck.
