“Because I have money, I should not ask for the one I worked for? – Ex-Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye calls out Enyimba over unpaid bonus
Former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, has publicly criticized Enyimba FC for failing to pay him and other players their match bonuses from last season. He expressed his disappointment on social media, making it clear that being financially stable doesn’t mean he should let go of what he rightfully earned.
Ideye, who played for the Aba-based club in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to speak out. He said it’s unfair that the club still hasn’t paid bonuses months after the season ended in May.
“Because I get money, I should not ask for the one I worked for? Please pay me and the players last season’s match bonuses. @EnyimbaFC, the season ended in May, till now nothing. Next season will start next month,” Ideye posted.
His post sparked reactions from fans and players, especially after he recently revealed that Enyimba only gave players ₦7,000 per day to feed during the 2024/2025 football season. For a top club in the Nigerian league, many feel that both the unpaid bonuses and low feeding allowance show a lack of proper treatment for players.
This isn’t the first time Nigerian footballers have spoken out about poor treatment from clubs. Ideye’s case is just one of many, and fans are now watching to see how Enyimba will respond before the next season kicks off.
