Lagos govt seals Lekki nightclub over noise pollution

A team of officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down Light House Club, a popular nightclub located on Admiralty Way in Lekki. The club was closed for breaking environmental rules, especially by causing too much noise in the area.

The Lagos Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He said the club had been warned several times about the loud noise but refused to make changes.

According to Wahab, the club went against Lagos State’s laws on acceptable noise levels. Since earlier warnings were ignored, the government had no choice but to take strict action through the concerned agencies.

He explained that the club will not be allowed to reopen until it follows all environmental rules. This includes setting up proper soundproof systems and passing checks by LASEPA to confirm that the noise level is within what is allowed.

Wahab also warned other entertainment spots, saying the government won’t overlook such actions. He added that the peace and comfort of Lagos residents is more important than business profits.

He ended by saying that environmental laws in Lagos are not up for debate, and the government will always protect the right of people to enjoy a quiet and peaceful environment.
