Bauchi bans DJs, gala events and other marriage activities to curb rising divorce rates

The Hisbah Commission in Bauchi State has introduced new rules for weddings and other social events in the state. This move comes as the commission noticed a growing number of broken marriages.

The commission said the 16 new rules are meant to bring back the religious and moral values of marriage. Some of the banned activities include using DJs, holding gala events, and other types of entertainment that are believed to lead people into immoral behavior.

These new rules will be enforced at public places like event halls, recreational centers, and clubs. The commission said the rules are supported by certain parts of the Sharia Penal Code in Bauchi.

Explaining why these actions are needed, the commission said many marriages fail because they lack baraka, which means blessings, from the beginning. They also said the new rules were made after going through many marriage-related complaints.

Rather than planning mass weddings for divorced women, the state government has chosen to support women by training them in business skills. Over 500 women, including some who were former sex workers, have been given training to help them make a living on their own.

Religious leaders in Bauchi will also play a role by educating people during mosque gatherings. The commission urged residents to follow the new rules and said their officials are ready to start making sure everyone obeys.
