Atiku’s recent departure from PDP will not impact us negatively – Tanko Beji

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Tanko Beji, has said that the party will not suffer from the recent resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He explained that the party remains solid and unshaken despite the exit.

While talking to reporters in Minna, Beji stated that Atiku’s departure is not a big deal. He believes that sometimes when one person leaves, it creates room for even more people to join. In his view, this could even be a blessing in disguise for the party.

Beji explained further, saying Atiku’s exit may actually help both sides. He wished Atiku well and added that the PDP also deserves good wishes. “One person may leave, but five more may come in,” he noted.

He also pointed out that Atiku had left the PDP in the past to join another party, ACN, and came back later. Throughout that time, the party stayed strong. Now that he’s leaving again, Beji said they are not worried and are ready to move on.

According to Beji, political parties are built on support and goodwill. If Atiku thinks leaving the PDP will help him win the presidential election, the party will wait and watch how it turns out.

Speaking about the future of the party in Niger State, Beji said that a new congress to elect fresh members of the State Working Committee (SWC) will hold in September 2025. He confirmed that he will not run again because he has finished his term, as stated in the party’s constitution.

He added that preparations for the congress are already in progress, and the party is focused on ensuring a smooth transition of leadership.

In another development, the PDP’s Administrative Secretary in Niger State, Jibrin Akwanu, has also left the party. He has now joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

When journalists asked him why he resigned, Akwanu simply said the PDP is like a sinking ship that is falling apart. He believes switching parties was the right move for him.
