A young woman from New Parklands in Bulawayo has gotten into serious trouble after she reportedly stole a Toyota Tundra worth US$70,000 and US$1,000 in cash from a man she had just met. Surprisingly, she returned a few hours later, allegedly trying to steal his second car—a BMW.
Police said 22-year-old Nicole Dube met a 37-year-old man from Khumalo on July 15. They reportedly hit it off quickly, and she ended up at his house that same night. After the man fell asleep, she allegedly ran off with his car and cash.
According to police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the two had met in Parklands where the man offered Dube a lift. They later went to his home, drank beer, had dinner, and went to bed around 10 p.m.
While the man was sleeping, Dube reportedly took his wallet with US$1,000 inside and grabbed the keys to both his Toyota Tundra and BMW. She then allegedly drove off in the Tundra. The stolen car was later found crashed and left abandoned near Chicken Inn, close to Tredgold Magistrates Court.
Surprisingly, the story didn’t end there. Around 2 a.m., Dube allegedly came back to the man’s house in a pirate taxi, this time aiming to steal the BMW. But she didn’t get far—the gardener, who had shown up early for work, spotted her near the car.
The gardener quickly informed the man, and together they stopped her and took her to the police. Inspector Msebele confirmed they recovered some of the cash and the BMW keys. The damaged Toyota has been seized for investigation.
Police used this case as a warning to the public. Inspector Msebele advised people to be more careful about who they invite into their homes, especially strangers they’ve just met, as they might have bad intentions.
Nicole Dube will be facing court soon and is likely to be charged with stealing a vehicle, taking cash unlawfully, and breaking into someone’s home.
