The court case of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed today, Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. However, the court placed a strict limit on how many people could attend.
Justice James K. Omotosho, the judge in charge, approved only ten people from Kanu’s team to be inside the courtroom during the hearing.
According to ABN TV, the approved list includes eight senior lawyers and two people close to Kanu. These are the only individuals allowed to be physically present during the session.
The legal team includes well-known Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) such as Kanu G. Agabi, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, Paul Erokoro, Emeka Etiaba, Mela Audu Nunghe, Dr. Joseph Akubo, Uchenna Njoku, and Aloy Ejimakor.
Two non-lawyers also made the list—Hon. Obi Aguocha, a federal lawmaker, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, who is Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother.
Today’s court sitting started at 9:00 a.m. This session comes after the previous hearing, where the Federal Government ended its part of the case. The court then told the defense lawyers to submit a written argument within 14 days, stating that Kanu has no case to answer.
The trial continues to draw attention from the public and supporters of Kanu, but access remains tightly controlled.
