As the 2027 general election draws closer, Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has shared his opinion about who can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the coming race.
According to Adeyanju, no candidate from the southern region of Nigeria can win against Tinubu unless that person is former President Goodluck Jonathan. He believes Jonathan still has enough popularity and influence to challenge Tinubu at the national level.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Adeyanju suggested the best combination to defeat Tinubu would be a ticket that includes Goodluck Jonathan and Rabiu Kwankwaso. He also said another strong option could be Peter Obi, but only if he pairs with a younger politician from the North.
However, Adeyanju dismissed Atiku Abubakar’s chances, saying Atiku might not attract enough support from young Nigerians. He believes young voters are an important part of the 2027 election and that Atiku’s image may not excite them.
Adeyanju’s comments have stirred reactions online. Some people agree with him, while others feel there are better options or disagree with his views altogether.
