The youth group of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a top Igbo cultural organization, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s government for bringing back hope to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
They said the new NDDC Board, which President Tinubu formed earlier this year, has been a major turning point for the commission that has existed for 25 years.
In a statement on Thursday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the group’s national president, said the board has revived the true purpose of the NDDC.
He said the recently revealed achievements, which were shown during the commission’s 25th anniversary celebration, were impressive and encouraging.
According to him, the NDDC boss, Mr. Samuel Ogbuku, has shown he can lead the organization well and make it meaningful again.
Okwu also said that unlike before when there were more promises than action, the group is now happy with real projects happening in South-East oil-producing states like Imo and Abia.
He stated, “We are thankful to President Tinubu for choosing the current NDDC leaders. It’s a big improvement from what we had before.”
He added that the current management has made sure that every oil-producing area now feels included and involved.
“There are road constructions, water projects, street lighting and other developments in different parts of Imo and Abia States,” he said.
Okwu said they were also happy to see that all areas were remembered during the NDDC’s 25th anniversary celebration, which helped people feel part of the commission.
He stressed that in many places, NDDC projects are the only visible signs of government presence.
“This shows that President Tinubu chose the right people to run the commission,” Okwu said.
He encouraged the NDDC board to continue their good work so that the progress seen so far can bring lasting hope to people living in oil-producing communities.
