Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has shared what the late President Muhammadu Buhari told him during the campaign season. Obi recently visited Buhari’s family in Daura, Katsina State, to offer his condolences. He came third in the 2023 presidential race.

Before the election, Obi met with Buhari, who was still in office at the time, to inform him that he wanted to run for president. After his condolence visit in Daura, Obi spoke to the press and shared what Buhari told him. According to Obi, the former President said, “Please care for the poor Nigerians.” Obi said he still remembers those words clearly and believes that Buhari did his best during his time as president.

President Buhari was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday. He passed away in London at the age of 82. Buhari, who was from Katsina, served Nigeria both as a military leader and later as a democratically elected president.
