Nigerian Army Finds Big Weapon Cache in Plateau State, Arrests 8 Suspects

The Nigerian Army has successfully recovered a significant cache of weapons in Plateau State, following follow-up operations by the 3rd Division and Operation Safe Haven in the Fann District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. This operation, announced by Major SN Zhakom on July 17, 2024, came after an earlier attack on a tactical team.

On July 10, 2024, the team was ambushed while trying to seize arms from gunrunners in Sangasa Village, resulting in the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent of Immigration CL Agwom. In response, the army conducted a week-long operation to clear illegal arms from Ratas, Ratoso, and Sangasa Villages.

The army arrested eight suspects and seized a large assortment of weapons, including twelve AK-47 rifles, fifteen Dane guns, and various ammunition. They also found military uniforms and equipment, suggesting the area had become a hub for criminal activities.

Major Zhakom emphasized that Operation Safe Haven is dedicated to removing illegal arms from the region and called on the public to support security efforts by providing reliable information. Additionally, the army declared three individuals wanted in connection with the criminal activities in Fann District.

The army honored the late Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, Christopher Luka Agwom, for his bravery and sacrifice during the operation. The public is urged to cooperate with security agencies to help maintain safety and law and order in the area.
