Former Manchester United defender, Axel Tuanzebe, has taken legal action against the club. He is accusing Manchester United of giving him wrong medical advice that affected his football journey.
Sky Sports reported that Tuanzebe filed the lawsuit on July 9. In his claim, he said the club’s medical team made poor decisions that harmed his playing career.
Tuanzebe, who is now 27, left Manchester United two years ago after his contract ended. He came through their youth system and played 37 matches for the senior team. Unfortunately, injuries kept getting in the way of his progress.
His injury problems began in 2019. He picked up a hip injury while warming up for a match against Liverpool. Later that same year, he was injured again during a Carabao Cup game against Colchester United, which ruled him out for the rest of the season.
The next season wasn’t any better. He had a foot injury that delayed his return until January 2023. After he became fit again, he was loaned to Stoke City to help him get back in form.
Despite his injury troubles, Tuanzebe managed to restart his career. He played for Ipswich Town, appearing in more than 40 games and helping the team move up to the Premier League in the 2023/24 season. He turned down a new contract with Ipswich and signed with Burnley on a free transfer last month.
Now representing DR Congo at international level, Tuanzebe’s legal case brings attention to how football clubs manage injuries. His case may influence how clubs handle medical care for players in the future.
