Governor Monday Okpebholo has taken action after reports came out that many supporters were locked out of the Edo State Government House during a recent celebration. The event was meant to celebrate a Supreme Court ruling, but instead, hundreds of people were stopped from entering.
To address the situation, the governor has ordered the immediate transfer of the security officers involved. He has also set up an investigation to find out exactly what happened and who gave the orders.
Okpebholo assured the public that anyone found guilty will be properly punished. He said he would not tolerate any actions that embarrass or push away the people who have stood by him.
Reports said that security operatives blocked access for APC members, market women, and young people. The guards claimed they were following orders “from above” and allowed only VIPs inside for refreshments.
Those being redeployed include the Camp Commandant and other officers who were on duty that day. Governor Okpebholo said he deeply regrets what happened. He described the security officers’ actions as wrong and not in line with his way of leading.
He made it clear that he is a leader who values the people and the media. According to him, the exclusion of supporters and invited guests was not authorized and went against the spirit of the celebration.
He stressed that he never approved such an order and would never allow anything that disrespects his supporters or members of the press.
As a governor chosen by the people, Okpebholo said he remains committed to being open, inclusive, and respectful to everyone involved in the state’s progress.
He ended by promising to continue building a government based on unity and transparency, where all supporters and stakeholders have a valued place in rebuilding Edo State.
