Mohbad: Coroner recommends prosecution of auxiliary nurse

The Lagos Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu has recommended legal action against an auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, over the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, whose full name was Ilerioluwa Aloba.

According to Magistrate C.A. Shotobi, who gave the ruling on Friday, Ogedengbe acted with serious negligence when she gave Mohbad an injection without first getting a prescription from a licensed doctor.

Even though the court ruled out murder or foul play, it stated that the nurse’s actions were both illegal and highly unprofessional.

The court referred to Section 29 of the Coroner Laws of Lagos State and advised the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to take proper legal steps against Ogedengbe for practicing medicine without approval and showing gross carelessness.

Ogedengbe had earlier been arrested in connection to Mohbad’s sudden death on September 11, 2023. The case stirred massive public outcry and led to calls for a full investigation.

While testifying in March 2025, Ogedengbe admitted that she gave Mohbad a tetanus injection. Moments later, he began vomiting and reacting badly to the medication.

This new development could finally bring legal accountability in the case that shook the Nigerian music scene and sparked nationwide protests demanding justice for Mohbad.
