As part of the fight against drug abuse and social problems in Yobe State, the chairman of Damaturu Local Government, Alhaji Bukar Adamu, has led a joint raid on places known for drugs and prostitution in the capital and nearby areas. This action follows Governor Mai Mala Buni’s order to clean up the state.
Yusuf Ali, who speaks for the state government on digital and strategic communications, made this known in a statement on Thursday.
Ali explained that based on trusted information, officers from the police, DSS, and NDLEA worked together to raid well-known drug spots. These included areas like Zango, YBC, Bakin Kasuwa, Maduri, and Daki Goma.
He added that many suspects were caught during the raids, and they were found with drugs and other illegal substances.
Chairman Bukar Adamu said the goal of the raid is to destroy places where crimes like drug sales and public use of banned substances take place.
“This action follows the governor’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse. He asked local leaders and traditional rulers to take action quickly against this dangerous problem,” Adamu said.
NDLEA also confirmed that several drug joints were shut down during the operation.
The agency said these arrests are just the start of a long-term effort to stop drug-related crimes and bring back peace and order to Damaturu.
They explained that both drug sellers and users would face the law. The agency also promised to increase their patrol and actions in the coming days.
