Obi will be expelled from our party – Abure-led faction of LP says

The Labour Party faction led by Julius Abure is planning to remove former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, from the party. This was made known by Abayomi Arabambi, who serves as the National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led group.

Arabambi revealed that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) will be called to meet soon. During this meeting, they plan to suggest that Obi should be expelled from the party completely.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Arabambi said Obi was earlier suspended from the party. Despite that, he claimed, Obi went on to carry out actions that go against the party’s interest, which they now view as anti-party behavior.

He further explained that once the NEC recommends Obi’s removal, the decision will be finalized at the Labour Party’s national convention. Arabambi noted that this process follows the party’s constitution and is similar to how many political parties handle such cases.

This move signals more division within the Labour Party and raises questions about Obi’s future in Nigerian politics.

”Let me make it very clear: we are convening a NEC [National Executive Council] meeting where he (Obi) will be expelled. It is unconstitutional for you to belong to two political parties at a time. They have deceived him to their side, and there he shall remain.

Obi will be expelled from our party. He is no longer a member. It is not within his right to claim, ‘I am still a member of the Labour Party,’ and at the same time be hobnobbing with what we call the ‘yahoo yahoo’ coalition. We are not going to accept that.” he said
